Found this little guy under some plywood. He looks a lot like a Southern Banded Watersnake to me, but......not sure. I am in NW Florida, and this was not near any water. He was very calm and docile, and even ate a small frog for me.

We are in a drought right now, so I guess I figured he would try to be near water. Were I found him had an abundance of small brown frogs, maybe that was the draw. Is it normal for them to be so placid? The ones I have found in the past were quite agressive, be it older as well.

While most Nerodia are defensive, the occasional one is calm. Even some of the defensive ones will calm down if handled properly.

Looks like N.fasciata fasciata to me, but i've been fooled by young Nerodia before.

Banded Water Snake. I think your guess is correct based on geography.

This little guy did not musk, or even try to get away. He sat calmly in my hand for over 30 min. That is what made me second guess his ID. I have just not known bandeds to be so calm and docile.kkMaybe he was just to young to know how mean he was "suppose" to be.
