Argentine Rainbow Boa care?

Clydesdale Apr 16, 2006 07:45 PM

I can't find a caresheet about argentine rainbows. I saw a blurb on a website that said they don't need high humidity or high temps, and that peaked my interest. But I can't find specifics.

Somebody please give me specifics!

Clydesdale,
....I usually keep my Argentinian Rainbows in the 70s with 40 to 60% humidity. I do provide a warmer spot in the cage for gravid ones to thermoregulate. This is one of the Epicrates cenchria subspecies which seems to have requirements that are only a little warmer and more humid than Cornsnakes.

Thanks for the quick response.

Anything else different about them? Do you feed them as often as you would a brazilian?
I know that every individaul snake is different, but are argentines generally docile?

Clydesdale,
....Like all Rainbow Boas they can be snippy when they are first born or first imported, and like other Rainbow Boas they calm down and tame easily with regular handling. Because they are much smaller and stay a little cooler than Brazilian Rainbows they eat much less food. They are also less inclined than Brazilian Rainbows to eat a large meal. My three adult Argentinians are eating adult mice and fuzzy rats.
