Breeding question for the Genetics wiz's

tko75 Apr 17, 2006 01:15 AM

I have a motley/stripe(Im assuming normal...she is brownish red)getting ready to shed post brumation. My question is should i cross her with an anery het amel? I know she has hidden hets as well but not sure what. I know her parents were not normals. will I get normals? If so, I was thinking about not breeding her this year until I can aquire a male that will produce something better. Any input would be appreciated. Ill see if can get a pic of her soon.

If she is het for anery and/or amel, it is likely you would get a small percentage of anery and amel babies. The only way you could do "better" is if you had a motley/stripe male, then you would get all motley/stripe babies. If she is het for anery and amel, and you really wanted to get "better" babies, the best male to get would be a stripe and/or motley snow. This would give you some amels, some anerys, possibly some snows, and all would be stripe and/or motley (depending on what your male is).

So, to sum it all up, if you have the space, the money, and the patience to wait, get a stripe snow, a motley snow, or a stripe/motley snow (but I haven't seen too many of those).
