Turtle traps in VA

Naja-naja Apr 17, 2006 02:03 PM

I am looking for info about water turtle traps.
Can you use them in VA?
What species do they work best on?
and directions on How to build them if they can be used legally.
I am trying to see what turtles I have at the swamp by my house.
Thanks for any help provided
Brandon

There are several different types of turtle traps. The hoop traps are probably the most productive, but must be positioned correctly to minimize the risk to the turtles. Before trapping turtles check with the VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries regarding any laws, restrictions and/or permits.
