Another dream come true. pics

JohnLokken Apr 17, 2006 04:28 PM

I wish the pics were better.......But, I'm going to leave them alone for a while.
I have been dreaming of this breeding since Ghosts came around. Now, I'm on my way.
The mother is a Yagi female and the father is a Kirby Ghost.
I couldn't be happier. The litter was a small one. Very heavy on the hypo side. (I'm so lucky!)
I have always wanted to make a Suri Ghost for myself. The Suri influnce is awesome with the hypo gene. I'll take more pics soon. They'll be better I promise.
Bill Kirby. I now know your bliss. Hypo Suris are awesome. You'll have to post pics of yours for others to see.
Here they are.

You better not skimp on the pix of these suckers, I've loved suri hypos since I first saw them a couple/few years ago.

Not many people have seen the surinam hypo cross and they are spectacular hypos. I know that ghost male is a good hypo so these should turn out very nicely and color up as adults. I am very happy to see you produced this litter. I look forward to seeing what they look like after they shed. The surinam cross ghost will be an awesome animal.

It is very hard to really show the color well. What makes them so interesting is the rich dark red color from the surinam.

I'm jealous...I bred my cherry suri to a DH Sunglow...he courted for 2 months (Jan-Feb) and lost interest sometime in March...no swelling/ovulation....guess I'll be waiting another year on my hypo suris.
Can't wait to see those babies as they develop!

I love the rich color that they have. Those will make killer ghosts. Keep us updated with pics as they shed and grow.

Those are sweet! I want a male hypo, just so I can see what a 75% suri hypo looks like.. I had bred a salmon poss new codom stripe to a suri female I have here but it just didn't work out.. Really let me know what you want for a male.

Those look great! Just from those pics, it looks like the saddles/tail markings are a rich red-burgandy. I can't wait to see them after they shed. Congratulations! Kisses to Mr Hershey

....in the photos, it doesn't appear that any of the babies have widows peaks. Did the mother have classic peaked saddles? It would be interesting to me if the male's influence dominated the saddle shape. Anyways, congrats on the babies......that's one dream litter checked off your list.

I am just thinking about the possibilities, and would like to see brighter red tails on commons etc... If someone could give me some more input besides (a mutt), and no offense to you **name removed by me**, but I would like some hard core facts as to why you should, or can't breed BCI with BCC. I am definitely open to all opinions, and I have never even bred anything yet. This will be my first time. Thanks all, Andrew Federico

info/experience.

There were 13 babies and about 15 slugs. 2 babies died.
Total=3 50/50's normal het anery
8 50/50's hypo het anery

I have to give a big plug for Tracy and Rich's boa breeding video.
It just skimmed the issue that I ran into. But, it gave me the idea to work with.
All these babies were premature. I honestly did not think any were going to make it. I placed each baby in it's own deli cup with a half in of water. I was trying to create a "membrane sack" they could stay in while sucking up their yolk sack. The video went over this. I don't think it spoke to the water addition. The video spoke to cutting the yolk sack off if it was out more than a day. I really thought about doing this. But, then I talked it over with my wife and decided not to. We were at the point where we were going to buy some dissolving sutures. I also had issues with tying the knot around the umbilical cord. I did not think I would be able to catch the dental floss before it went into it's belly. Or, I would cut the cord trying to cut the dental floss.
So, I left them in their deli cup. I changed the water 2-3 times a day. Gently transferring them to a new cup each time. I then left them in my sweater rack. (The drawer rack really came in handy. I don't know if I could have pulled this off without them.) After a day to two days the babies began crawling out of their deli cups. Others just stayed put. I just had the last one get out and join the others tonight. Some babies sucked up their egg mass. Others naturally pulled it off.
I guess the moral of the story is don't give up. Nature took it's course. I was lucky in the fact that their lungs were developed. My very first litter died because they were too dropped too early.
Hopefully this will help others. Again a thank you to Tracy and Rich for the idea.
John
