Mixing species?????

snake_girl85 Apr 17, 2006 09:19 PM

I've currently got 2 turtles, a RES and an African Mud (NOT the agressive species, same genus, but this one is VERY mellow) in separate enclosures, since I think the red ear would be waaaay too agressive. I know of a Reeves turtle that needs a new home, but I really have no room for another tank at the moment. would there be any way he would get along with the African mud? I'd kinda like to get him, but only if it would work out well for him.

3.1 Cats
1/2.0 rabbit (friend and I went 50/50)

No. Not a good idea. They are from different parts of the world. Mixing them could create health issues for one or both. ALSO -- do not be fooled by your placid turtle. I have seen the "more gentle" species of African mud turtles drown other turtles and behave aggressively.

Overall -- not a good practice to mix species from different parts of the world.

yeah, i would tend to shy away from the mixing species in a captive cituation, but espicially in this case because of the different parts of the world thing (diseases ect.) as well as there not being any good way to tell how a turtle is going to act. Anything even in the same genus as an agressive turtle should probably not be trusted to put up with the introduction of a new turtle into its enclosure.

sorry, i know its never fun to pass on an animal, but I really woulden't.

"I also have some animals, but not enough to make a good looking list, so who cares?"
