Still new at this...

Okay, I've had my little pacman frog for about a week and a half now. I have Bedabeast as the substrate, (3 to 4 inches thick on the bottom of the aquarium). I keep the soil moist, (misting it twice a day). I notice through the side of the cage that the soil is retaining moisture, (I can see some of the water droplets in the soil through the glass), so I don't believe that the frog is in any danger of dehydration...similarly, I don't see any mold growing, so I don't believe that I'm keeping it too moist, (or is the mold difficult to see?)

So how should I go about cleaning up this set up? And how often should I clean it? I've been told to clean the cage once a week, but I don't see anything that needs cleaned. I was told by someone on here that as long as you spot clean the waste, you shouldn't have to do a full change out of the soil for some time...but I've yet to see any waste. How often do the little guys "use the restroom"? Is it difficult to spot frog droppings?

Also, do I need to clean this type of set up weekly? And how do I clean it? Just scrape off the top layer of soil, or change out the Bedabeast completly? What should I do?

I should note that the little guy seems to be doing fine, from what I can tell...he has a healthy appetite, and some days he keeps himself buried under the soil, other days, he's out on top. He does seem to want to stay on the left side of the aquarium though, (it's the side with the heating pad attached to it).

Any advice would be appreciated.

you cant see his urine which has alot of ammonia in it that encourages bacterial growth and thus red leg so you should probably clean him out once a week anyway.

Okay, but HOW do I go about cleaning his cage up? Scrape off the top layer of substrate? Completely change out the substrate?

as they usually burrow in the substrate its the bottom layers that get dirtiest so its probably convenient for you to just change the whole substrate.

i wouldn't clean once a week, they always tell you to, but i don't think anybody ever does. i currently have a dozen amphibians and i do a "good clean" about every 4 months. spot clean often though, bed a beast doesn't mold easy at all, i use it for a lot of my stuff and i have yet to see it mold. good luck!
