sunburstdragons Apr 17, 2006 09:55 PM

hi, I'm new to breeding boxies. ever since i was a child i had one named thurstin. he brought a ton of joy into my life and i have decided to breed them. i will receive a 1.1 pair on next Monday and they were kept out doors most of their lives. is it OK to keep them inside, and how should i reintroduce them in order to breed. thanks

out side is best, it would take alot of money to set up an indoor set up good enough to keep them mentally happy and physically healthy, not too mention the amount of space required(MINIMUM for ONE bxie is 5' x 5', and I even think this is too small)
which ssp. are you going to breed?

well i live in kentucky so i plan to breed easterns. do you know much about them?

I read where you live in Kentucky-you should have the perfect weather to kept your turtles outdoors. It is much easier to breed them that way too, afterall that is what turtles do when they are free to be turtles. Indoor turtles are often stressed out and don't dig their nest properly, or even eat the eggs! If you have a choice please pick to keep them outsside. They will be happier and very safe if you build them a proper pen. I have very large outdoor pens where the turtles stay in during the day. At night I move them into smaller, enclosed pens with tops so raccoons cannot get to them. They are very used to the move back and forth and show no signs of stress in either pens.

thanks, the weather here is pretty good. Do you know what the best way to introduce them is?
