I was handling my 2 year old nile croc this evening and it sparked a question I've always had about crocodilians, or have never gotten a sufficient answer on.
What are crocs doing when they are "rolling their throat"?
That is, the pulsing just below the base of their jaw.
A few have told me it's just breathing, but I can clearly differeniate between when their rib cage expands and contracts (breathing), and them "rolling their throat" for lack of a better term.
I doubt the latter is breathing, because it only happens when the the rib cage is NOT expanding/contracting.
Thanks.
Greg
