Hi Elizabeth,

I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life and have not heard of any licensing for reptiles. I believe Chicago may have enacted something, but I think it applies to the larger herps. I'm sure if a license was necessary, the pet shops selling the herps would be required to have a new owner fill out paperwork prior to acquiring a reptile to make sure the state could collect their fee. For the most part all of this licensing doesn't end up being for the good of the animal, it's just another way for our government to make more money due to their inability to spend wisely. Just my opinion. Good luck with your move. I live around Milwaukee, about and hour and a half from Madison.

The licenses I think are for the more "dangerous" reptiles, like snakes, monitors, tegus, and other reptiles that can bite. I'm not saying it's justified, I'm just saying that it's because of scared people that these laws get put into place.
My uros earn their keep everywhere they go when people learn that these things eat dandelions.
