Is uro sleeping during day normal?

cajit Apr 18, 2006 02:11 PM

I just got a yearling mali uro.i've noticed he's been sleeping on and off during the day and wanted to know if this is normal he otherwise seem's fine.I have him on seed for substrate and gonna have to change it to sand cause he's eating too much of the seed. But any feedback on the sleep issue would be greatly appreciated!

I'm by no means an expert... but my uro doesn't sleep during the day. Occasionally, while basking, she will close her eyes for a bit (15-20min) but thats about it. She doesn't go back into her "burrow" to sleep until about 5pm.

Completely normal. They get up & move around & feed & go back to sleep as their instincts tell them to do. Don't expect daily repetitive behavior. If your temps are as they should be, I wouldn't be concerned. But, temps are the key for everything & you might want to eyeball your high/lows. Otherwise, consider that barometric pressure, moon phases, humidity & other factors play a role in daily activity. Uros are tuff. Feed them well, give them the right temps & they'll do the rest. No worry about sleep.

Appreciate it Arredondo(i think that's how it's spelled).I've only had OZ for 5 day's now and he already went through 2 tank changes started with 29 gallon,he didn't like that one at all so had to run out last night and dump a nice chunk of change on a 50 gallon but made a world of difference.Just wanted to make sure it was normal. So Thank's again!!!

No problem. You spelled it right. Actually, my name is Dan & the moniker (sp? can't locate in Websters) is a whole other story. Something to do with my passion for Indian relics & one last attempt to get an approved screen name so I'd be able to send a thought out. Anywhat, glad things are looking up for your guy. Cagewise, bigger is always better. Also, I think too many make the mistake of providing only one height platform under the basking & UV lights. Provide as many height opportunities as is practical. During the day, they'll use them all to regulate, depending on their needs.
