Is this good luck or bad?

reptilicus81 Apr 18, 2006 03:39 PM

My day is absolutely CRAZY! We bred one of our large females to our pastel and she is def. gravid. Today I saw eggs! Yay! One problem...she didn't lay them! My 5 year old "male" pet ball did. I had "him" probed 4 years ago as a male by a reputable breeder. He popped and probed "him" a male. I never second guessed it! I guess I should of second guessed because my 2500 gram "male" just laid eggs because I stored "him" with a couple of normal males while I was transported them to my new house.
Anyways, my other female isn't due to lay for quite some time, so I was not prepared! I ran out and bought a hovabator and some vermiculite. Luckily I already have a thermostat! The eggs look pretty good so far...only two! CRAZY! I am mad that I did not use her for my pastel! I am going to recheck all of my males now! Here are some pics:

So, we pulled her out and realized she had a couple more eggs hiding! All of the eggs have blood vessels, so they are all viable. I mixed some water with the vermiculite, but just enough to make it clumpy. I was scared to over water them! Is it better to be a little dry than a little wet?

Thanks!

I make mine really wet but I don't have my eggs actually sitting in it like yours, I use crate to keep them off the substrate. In your case I wouldn't want it too wet, just so it clumps good.

I'd call it good luck. You now have one more proven female. Isn't that one of the most valuable things to breeders?

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

Haha true! Now if only I can figure out the incubator! I'm like a worried mother! At least they haven't dimpled or molded yet, so it must not be too bad so far...but then again it is day 1! Only 59 more left...
