Food size

Franswa Apr 18, 2006 09:36 PM

Just looking for a little advice on food size. I have a 23inch MBK, up till now I had just been giving him pinkies, he would eat 2 at a time in a matter of seconds, so when I ran out I bought some fuzzies. My question is how do you know if its too big for him? He ate it, it took him some work, but he got it down. Pinkies definitaly seemed too small for him, but he looked a bit like a balloon for a min till he got the fuzzy all the way down. I just want to be sure that im not giving him something that can harm him, I dunno if he would eat something that was too big for himself or not.

Any advice is appreciated!

It's okay for the food to be a bit bigger around than they are. My milks are about the size of your king, maybe a bit smaller, and they eat rat pinkies, which are even bigger than mouse fuzzies.

That is a great question and I applaud you for caring about your snake's health in regards to feeding.

When it comes to feeding size, when you see the bulge in the snake's body, maybe think of it to be no bigger than 25% of the widest part of the snake. Snakes can swallow items that would appear to be too large, so you would be surprised. Remember, if they can swallow it, that does not always mean it is a good size for them. I have seen snakes swallow items way too big and end up puking them up.

I think fuzzies for a snake that length is great. Perhaps one every 5-7 days, that is what I would recommend. Good and proper weight is what you should always keep in mind.

Hope this helps!
