Breathing problems

nate7667 Apr 18, 2006 10:32 PM

I bought a Ball Python 3 weeks ago. He is a young-ling, and is only about a 1.5 feet. He has adapted to his enviromant well and is eating fantastic. This is my first snake and I wasn't sure what humidity to set up, so I kept it at like 50. Only now I have realized that is too high and I have to get a de-humidifier to bring it down. But now he is snorting sometimes and is opening his mouth to breathe. I Know now I need to bring the humidity down, but do I need to bring him to a herbatologist? Is he sick?

sounds like a respiratory infection, you should get him checked out by a qualified vet. be careful with vets because the only qualified one in my area knows less than me.

as for the humidity 50 is fine, whats your temp?

The temp is 90 on one side and 78 on the other. The 78 side has a hidebox that is much cooler. They said at the pet store that I should leave the heat lamp on all the time. So I'm going to do that now. What do you think?

I ended up leaving the heat lamp on all the time, instead of just during the day, and the respiatory infection got better, thanks for all the advice guys
