Egg Humidity

reptilicus81 Apr 18, 2006 10:46 PM

If I want to increase humidity in my hovabator is it best to fill the water chamber, wet the vermiculate further or spray the eggs directly with water?

Don't spray water on the eggs. If you need to add water to the vermiculite pour it sparingly around the edges, not near the eggs. If you are using the hovabator with a fan it may keep drying the eggs and vermiculite out if the are not in a container inside the hovabator. Hope this helps. Jon

Good advice. If you can, put the eggs in an inner chamber (container). If the turbo fan model, you will need frequent rehydrations which should go around the edge of the eggs. Do not make it wet. You can wet the corners of the vermiculite.

I think we are worrying ourselves too much since it is the first clutch we've had! I took some pics of the hovabator set up with the eggs. The top of the hovabator has no condensation, and the vermiculite is wet to the touch, but doesn't squeeze out any water. Any suggestions regarding my setup? Thanks Again!

Can you fit a lid on that container? Even a piece of plexiglass would be fine.

Should I poke a few holes in the top? I can fit the original lid on the container.

Just for the probe. Once every 10 days or so, open the container. This will allow you to check on the eggs as well as add fresh air.
