Kingsnake Barfed Again

arconea Apr 19, 2006 01:19 AM

Hi,
I wrote about two weeks ago saying my CA Kingsnake had barfed up the mouse he ate. Well, he did it again. I don't think I scared him this time either. Or at least he never acted scared. He just barfed it up. Maybe I frightened him by accident. I don't know. Anyway, I'm worried now. He appears to be very healthy. He's about 4 1/2 feet long and very active: he's always going bananas around his tank - climbing up the side, crawling around, ect. Any ideas?

First off, wait at least 10 days before feeding him again. In the meantime, pick up a product called NutriBac. When you go to feed him again, feed him a smaller-sized mouse/rat than he usually gets. Dip the rear-end of the feeder into the NutriBac and then feed to him. The NutriBac will help replenish the enzymes in his stomach that were lost when puking, and the smaller-sized rodent should hopefully stay down this time.

What are the cage temps? The high activity and regurg may be attributed to high heat. Try a temp gradient of 72-75 on the cool end thru 82-85 on the warm.

The temperature is about 80 Fahrenheit through the whole tank. I have no heat lamp over any part of the tank. How do I make half of the tank cooler?

It also sounds like he's not that interested in feeding but rather getting out of his cage to look for a female. Lately my king male has been the same way and if I open the top while he's eating he'll drop the mouse and try to crawl out of the cage!
