Downside To Topsoil?

Grunngg Apr 19, 2006 03:20 AM

So after asking here, I found out if I bake unfertilized topsoil, it should be sanitized and safe to use with frogs. I was just curious, are there any downsides to using topsoil? I know it doesnt help maintain humidity as much. But it costs $1.19 for 40-50lbs of it. And about $6 for maybe 3lbs of Bed-A-Beast. I was thinking about using topsoil on most of my pets and giving them a this layer of Bed-A-Beast to help with humidity. What do you guys think? Is it safe as long as I know its unfertilized and I bake it?

you should be fine doing so. mixing in bed a beast will help to aerate the soil and keep it from drying out to quickly. as stated before, baking topsoil will only reduce the possibility of unwanted insects and fungal/bacteria growth. it is one of the best ways to help insure that this doesn't happen.
