to probe or not

newearth Apr 19, 2006 08:23 AM

I am trying to get a list of snakes that should not be probed due to damage being caused,i.e.because of a delicate or fine musk gland in females.
If anyone can help me with a list etc. Or is there a list already online somewhere and cn point me in the right direction.

If conducted properly, probing should not be a problem with any adult snakes. However, those which might be predisposed to present problems regarding safe probing would be smaller species, such as members of the genus Diadophis, Storeria, Leptotyphlops, Carphophis or any other genus of diminutive size. I would also suggest not probing neonates of any genus.

Best regards,

Jeff
