A Question

dollarthegreat Apr 19, 2006 11:42 AM

Do you guys think its rude when you ask someone a question and the answer they give you is correcting your spelling? Are when someone asks for your help in a email and you send them what they asked for, but the email you get back is them correcting your spelling? This email is directed at nobody. I just wanted to know what you guys think about this? Sometimes i see it on this forum and i think its not nice. I could see if you were trying to help the person with there spelling, but most of the time the question is not even answered. They just get there spelling knocked on. Please dont start a long topic where everyone is fighting. I just want to see what you guys think about this.

I see what you are saying, however, some people dont even take the time to TRY to make sure that spelling is correct. I agree however, that if the people responding can take the time to correct spelling and grammatical errors, then perhaps they can take a couple extra moments to answer the initial question as well. I would like to think that the majority of people who enjoy our hobby, and our love for these animals are also well educated individuals who care about how they present themselves, whether it be in person or in a public forum.

Just my opinion,

Chris

I think sometimes people just want to participate or be heard for whatever reason. Or maybe they get a kick out of making someone look bad. You can tell the difference from a message where the poster is either a horrible speller or simply hit the letter next to the letter he/she meant to hit, then misses the correction or just doesn't proof read their post. If this were a grammer forum it would have merit but since we're talking about the Burmese Python, I usually ignore em'

Personally, I can read typonese . When reading a post, one can get the general idea of what a mispelled word is just by the way it's being used in the sentance. If you understand the question, why nit pick? I'm sure everyone in the forums aren't all educated to the same degree. A little tolerance goes a long way. JMHO.

I know I can't stand reading posts with really bad spelling..but I'm not talking about the occasional mistake, I mean that's fine everyone does that. What I can't stand is when someone intentionally types the entire message spelling everything like "kewl" etc. Of course I just don't usually respond to those. However, if the person is an as*hole, AND messes up spelling, I will definately point it out

It's rude, no doubt. But then when the post is so unintelligable as to be almost unreadable, it unfortunately makes it a target.

We all do typos, but your words are the only measure of who you are on these forums. It is worth it to make the effort to try and write with reasonably good spelling.
