Male or Femal - Does it matter

the_jackel Apr 19, 2006 11:59 AM

I see in most posts that people breed a male HET whatever to a normal female. Does this really matter?
Would a normal Male breed to a HET female give you the same results?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new to breeding and I found an offer for a HET female Albino and HET female Pied that seemed attractive.

Thanks
Sean

The reason people breed het males to normal females is that one male can breed many females. If you have say a het pied male you can breed him to 4 or 5 females and get tons of poss. hets.Males can also breed at 6 months of age , females can obviously only breed with one male and need to be atleast 1.5 years old to breed. If you can get a het pied and het albino female at a good price then go for it.While you are raising them upto breeding size you can get male hets to match them up with or go for male albinos or pieds.Male hets are very cheap in most cases less that a quarter of the price of a female het.I would recomend getting your females if they are a good deal and then worry about your males when every one has babies, now is the time to buy as everybody is trying to make room for this years offspring so they will sell 05 animals for a fair price. Just our 2 cents!

Well you could breed multiple males to one female but you'd only get one clutch.
