I'd like to set up a cage with local (Missouri) forest floor litter (say logs, leaf litter, mosses or lichens, etc.) for a prairie kingsnake I recently caught. Any advice on how to make sure the stuff is fairly clean and safe? Thanks.

One way I can think of would be to freeze it, that should get rid of most unwanted critters etc.
