Another interesting litter born today!

locolizard Apr 19, 2006 03:13 PM

I bred a Coral albino female 66% het for anery with a Jungle male and a Possible dominant ghost male with a nice stripe tail. Well it was a long wait but she delivered a nice litter today of ghosts and anerys, NO Normals! And some of the ghosts have stripes!

I will get an exact count later, but it looks like about 16-17 babies alive, 1 still born and 4 slugs. I would guess its a 50/50 split on the ghosts and aneries.

So my question is, I bred an anery(ghost) to a het anery(coral albino) and got all anery/ghost babies, how did that happen?

Ok here are the pics.

Thanks for looking and any comments!

Mark,

On a serious note, will you market them as het for Moonglow? Or Ghost Het Coral Albino?

Looks like the odds simply fell in your favor. It's your lucky year with the moonglow (1/32 odds) and now this, congrats again!

The Genetics gods for hitting that one. All anery or ghost from a homo to het breeding is like hitting the lottery. I hope I do a well when I breed my ghost to my albino het snow this winter.

thats about a .0000008% chance (I did the math). Those are some impressive odds, and like everyone else said congratulations and maybe you should try the lottery.
Hopefully some of that luck will rub off to others.

You're off by at least an order of magnitude.

Assuming 16 live snakes odds of zero het anery's is 0.5^16= 0.000015 (or about a 1 in 65,000 chance).

Assuming 17 live snakes odds of zero het anery's is 0.5^17=0.0000076 (or about 1 in 130,000)!

Either way, crazy odds...congrats.

mdc Apr 19, 2006 04:27 PM

Awesome Mark. Great odds on that one. I agree, you need to buy a lotto ticket.

OK, if you assume the female IS het for anery, and the male IS dominant (super) hypo, homo anery, then the result would be:

50% Het. albino, Het. anery, Het. (but of course visual) hypo,
50% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Het. (again, visual) hypo,

So, looking at your clutch, it looks almost certain that the parents are as described above.

So in the clutch you have hypos het for both anery and albino (A), and ghosts het for albino (B).

Breed A to A you get:

1.5625% WT
3.125% Het. hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Het. anery,
6.25% Het. anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Het. anery, Homozygous hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous anery,
3.125% Homozygous anery, Het. hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Het. albino,
6.25% Het. albino, Het. hypo,
3.125% Het. albino, Homozygous hypo,
6.25% Het. albino, Het. anery,
12.5% Het. albino, Het. anery, Het. hypo,
6.25% Het. albino, Het. anery, Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Het. albino, Homozygous anery,
6.25% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous albino,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Het. hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous albino, Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Het. anery,
6.25% Homozygous albino, Het. anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Het. anery, Homozygous hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery, Het. hypo,
1.5625% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo,

Breed A to B you get:

3.125% Het. anery,
6.25% Het. anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Het. anery, Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Homozygous anery,
6.25% Homozygous anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo,
6.25% Het. albino, Het. anery,
12.5% Het. albino, Het. anery, Het. hypo,
6.25% Het. albino, Het. anery, Homozygous hypo,
6.25% Het. albino, Homozygous anery,
12.5% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Het. hypo,
6.25% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Het. anery,
6.25% Homozygous albino, Het. anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Het. anery, Homozygous hypo,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery,
6.25% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery, Het. hypo,
3.125% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo,

Breed B to B you get:

6.25% Homozygous anery (Anery's),
12.5% Homozygous anery, Het. hypo (Ghosts),
6.25% Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo (Dominant Ghosts),
12.5% Het. albino, Homozygous anery (Anery [66%] het for albino),
25% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Het. hypo (Ghosts [66%] het for albino),
12.5% Het. albino, Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo (Dominant ghosts het for albino),
6.25% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery (Snows),
12.5% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery, Het. hypo (OUCH)(snypos),
6.25% Homozygous albino, Homozygous anery, Homozygous hypo (DOUBLE OUCH!)(Dominant snypos!),

Now, remember, these are all APPROXIMATE %s
And, that the hypo hets are visual hypos

For me, I'd keep the ghosts.

Now I think that's right, either that or I've made a big c*ck up and have to put it down to the late hour!

Hope that helps!

Oh, and it would look as though the striping is incidental

Ok the female is an albino het anery and the male is a striped ghost that the hypo part didnt prove dominant or the whole litter whould have been ghosts.

albino het anery X hypo anery

should yield some normals 100% het for snow, anerys 100% het for albino, and ghosts 100% het for albino/moonglow. And the striping is dominant, it shouw up in every ghost litter from this line of ghosts and its only expressed in the ghosts in this litter.

Pictures of mom and dad.

And here is a pic of dad doing his work.

Thanks,
Mark

than your 50% expected, but it happens! I bred an anery sand boa to a het anery last year and all 10 babies were anerys--so remember ALL babies had a 1/2 chance-independent of each other--your tumblers just lined up the same!! Now you know your female albino is a het for snow and all those babies are het albino and the ghosts are triple hets for the "moonglow!" Go to Vegas!!

Congrats!
