bladder stones

mctague Apr 19, 2006 03:18 PM

Two friends and I each purchased 2 waxy monkey tree frogs about a year ago. Of the 6 frogs 3- have developed bladder stones. Does anyone have any info on this?
Also has anyone had any experience housing waxys and whites tree frogs together?
Thanks

I have had a sauvagii get a bladder stone in the past. This was removed by a veterinarian before the Wright and Whitaker book was published, so I think it is something that can be considered relatively routine for a good herp vet. The aforementioned book "Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry" Shows this surgery in a different species of Phyllomedusa. I am not sure why these animals are so susceptible to this problem in captivity... Perhaps a vet would have some perspective on this.

Thanks for the info, I am actually a vet tech and work with a dr who loves to work with exotics. 2other techs and I each have 2 waxys, and of our 6 frogs mine is the 3rd to have the surgery. The first one was done 9/05 and doing well to date. How was the aftercare for yours? Any tips? How long did it take yours to start eating on his own?
Thanks Again

Waxy's and whites should not be housed together as they have totally different requirements. Waxy's need to be able to bask and have a dry humidity. Whites wouldn't last long in that enviroment.
