Are these worth it?

Geckohappy Apr 19, 2006 04:48 PM

I happened to see an ad today for 6 geckos. 5 of them are male, and one is female. They have been kept together, which I know could not have been good for them, at least not the poor female!
The person is asking $350 to $400 for the whole setup, tank heaters, hides, dishes, whatever, but I can't really afford that much right now They also look pretty thin to me (probably due to battling over food) In my heart, I want to rescue them all and divide them up! The seller and his wife are about to have a baby, and the wife wants them out.
He has offered to sell individuals for $75, and the first male is the one that I am most interested in. I already have a couple of rescues and they are doing great (I've read everything possible to make sure I am giving them the proper care) and I have a great local herp vet.

The question is, is this particular male (first one pictured) worth that, or are any for that matter? I'm thinking of the female too, but I don;t think she is nearly worth that amount.
What morph is the first one? The others look like a mix of patternless and normals (maybe high yellows) but I am new to this and I don't know much about the morphs.
1st male, 6 inches long:

female 5 inches:

male 2 5 inches:

male 3 6 inches (way too skinny):

male 4 6 inches:

male 5 8 inches:

I've been told that none have been bred, and this is the rest of the info I have:
"wellfirst and foremost they are all well fed they go through at least 70 large crickets every week and they are fine in health I have a freind who has a veternarian degree and breeds reptiles checks them on a monthly basis as far as the whole setup that included the tank heating lamps and pad tree branch and all geckos i might be willing to seel separate
well i 75 each and yes they are still int he same tank they dont fight they are pretty cool I am selling them because we have a baby on the way and my wife wants them gone before the baby comes"

So, I am thinking that maybe someone here, near the Philadelphia area might also be interested in helping me get these guys good homes? I might be able to negotiate a better price if his wife wants them out bad enough!

Sorry about that you have to cut and paste to see the pics... I just joined and I'm trying to figure out how to properly post images.

To post your photos to this board you first need to upload them to the Photo Gallery under kingsnake.com. Look at the list above, it's right next to New Products. It took me a while to figure it out too. Good luck with your rescue.

I think since there is evidence of poor health you need to have them all vet checked so $75 each is much too much to ask. Especially since the owner's care was irresponsible in maintaining too many in one tank plus having more than one male in the tank. If they were cared for properly, none of them would be skinny. You can't tell if they're under nourished or have parasites or something else that only a vet can tell you.

He is now asking $250 for all of the geckos and supplies, but now I am wary of trying to save that many at once, The vet bills and seperate enclosures would be tough to deal with. I've told him that he can let me know if he just wants to turn them over for rescue.
If someone from the area reads this who would want to split them up to rescue, please let me know. They are in Philadelphia.
Thanks for your response.
