anyone set up their incubators yet? What kind of laying medium are you going to use for your females to nest and lay in?

Chris, I have one pair bred. Orange cheek to john lassiter buckskin. I really like that yellow guy you have. Where did he come from?. Shark tooth looks like he has some nice yellow in his bands too. The female I got from you is going to shed next. I'll try her next. Hope you have a good year. Looks like your off to a flying start...........mike bod

Are you breeding all of your females to one male exclusively?

Mike Kochvar asked me about proving my males this year in an earlier post. I've been breeding all of my females to two different males just so that all of them have a better chance of producing good eggs this year. I was going to pair them up to one male only but then thought better of it because I have so many 1st time females and males. Also Sharktooth has been so slow to get going I was afraid he wasn't going to figure it out. He bred again tonight with my Molten female. He's starting to "get it".
Your right about sharktooth's yellow bands. He's got the best, brightest, and cleanest yellow of all of my snakes.

Are you asking about this male? If so I got him from Dan Vermilya. He's more of a straw yellow but I love his pattern too.

Chris, yes , thats the guy. He's nice.......I'm breeding three different male. My orange leonis , orange cheek, and logan yellow male. I have 5 females that I hope will breed this year. mike

I thought for sure you had more females....and males for that matter. Do you have any really good yellow females ready this year? Oh you have that Evan stall yellow female huh. How many of your females are proven?

I'm a little worried about a couple of my females. I'll feel alot better about them next year.

I really need to feed that yellow keyholed male of mine more this year. He's a good eater after the spring breeding season but he seems to stay so lean. I'm gonna try and pump him up this year.

I would'nt put my molten female in the same catagory as the Bodners orange cheek male but she is pretty close. She does'nt quite have those orange cheeks like his does. As for Cupid, I'm presuming that your refering to sharktooth. And your pretty close with that description, except I would expand it and call him Stupid Cupid. He's getting better but he still has a ways to go.

BTW my river rd alterna hooked up tonight.

These two

Well, the other day i put my thayeri together and not too much happened as you know, i put them back together this morning and they were much more lovey towards each other, the female looked like she was presenting her vent, but the male didnt get all that excited. he is in shed so i hope that has something to do with it, mabey he wants too look his best before the big night? so i am going to put them back together tonight as hopefully they will do their thing, my corns are breeding like crazy, but i would rather, in all honesty have the thayeri breed and have the corns just hang out together, you know. well i will keep you up dated on their progress.

Ya just keep trying them. Sometimes they can start pretty slow. But usually they figure it out on their own. I think that both of your snakes have breed before so you should have some luck with them breeding. Hopefully they'll have good eggs too.

All of my females have breed at least twice now. Most of them 4 or 5 times. I try mine with the prefered male as often as they'll keep breeding.

yeah i am gonna keep trying them, i bought the male as a proven breeder at the all new england reptile expo, but he hasnt had the opportunity to breed till now, there is a ton of cuddling going on as we speak(type)but nothing has taken place yet, i am keeping an eye on them while leaving them alone at the same time, lights are off, the tub is humid, oh well we will see.

Try some Al Green music and give them some White Zinfendal. That'll loosen them up. LOL

well i just seperated the two they were together for two hours and i kid you not i opened the tub and the female was all coiled up and the male was wrapped around her, it was a big snuggle fest, and i guess everything starts with that, so i am saying i had an improvement in attitude, so even though no breeding took place it was a positive night. tomorrow is another day....

Been a while since I posted. My wife and I relocated to St Augustine, Florida with the pets in tow.

We are only breeding one or two pair of thayeri this year and here's a picture of the first pairing. Getting along quite well for their first date.

Not the best picture, but I didn't have the heart to disturb them.

Tom Anderson Apr 21, 2006 06:31 PM

I built these last month in preparation for the breeding season and to give some of our larger snakes some more room.

For the first time in years, we actually have extra room!

I installed short peices of threaded PVC between the cages. They have end caps on them and we open them for the breeding season so the snakes can mingle. So far, it's worked great!

I just gotta see what those two produce. Those are both really nice specimens. Please post pics of the hatchlings when they pop out.

I have a male and female that look alot like those two. I had sort of thought about pairing them up but I wanted to try a different male with her this year.

Here are the two I'm talking about

They are very similar! If we get some offspring, i will definately post the pics. We moved to FL this year from PA and had a hard time getting our snakes cooled off. We'll see how it effected their fertility in the next couple months.

vichris Apr 24, 2006 10:05 PM

Hey Tom I ment to mention that I really liked your idea on those breeder cages too. Its a very well thought out design. I may have to do something like that in the future.
