what do you mean 'not exactly normal'? He's normal. A great looking normal, but normal just the same.

Why does this question seem to pop up so often? I see it especially with the BP's and the leopard geckos. Sure, he has some nice busy patterns, but I wouldn't consider him anything more than normal.

with my first bp durga, after doing research on bp's and morphs, i thought i knew alot i read for a year what i could... reading about morphs and flames and blushing and clear bellies and hets it gets a beginners hopes up....thats what happened to me.... now i am funny about the questions i ask.....LOL

gailt Apr 19, 2006 08:46 PM

You are right ... beginners and people just hoping that their animal maybe a bit special read about this and that and it does get people's hopes up. You shouldn't worry about the questions you ask, that's what a forum is for, to ask, to learn, and to share.

well see ill post photos of devi and durga, durga i thought was something different because his color is different from the other 2, the 2 last photos are of durga

gailt Apr 19, 2006 10:09 PM

Devi looks like she maybe a black back. I like her fading. Durga looks different in both pics. One pic he has a copper like color to him and in the bottom pic he looks more of a normal color.

And something to consider, we are viewing these pictures via our monitors. Often times animals look different in person, and they often look much better.

yeah durgas coloring looks similar to that, i figured maybe ball pythons kind of like corn snake look different depending on location..............
he is in shed right now as soon as he shed ill get photos of him with a white back ground.

raisnok Apr 20, 2006 04:52 AM

also devi i though was a black back, but right after the stripe on her neck she has four or five spots....then they stop and thats it, if those spots werent there she would have been classified as a black back?
puja is the same also he has a few spots down his back 2 i think.

raisnok Apr 20, 2006 04:55 AM

i think you can see his color a little better..... i will still get more photos and post them though

gailt Apr 20, 2006 11:08 AM

That is a better picture of him ... he's very nice looking.

I mark my normals that are better than average because when you are breeding, there are certain patterns or colors that you may want to breed to certain morphs and that way I know which "normals" are better than or different than normal. And who knows, some of these better than average normals may have some funky genes going on.

There are "morphs" out there now that were considered different than a normal but weren't so completely different that one could tell there was something going on such as is visible when you see an Albino, Spider, Clown or Pied for example.

You have some nice looking animals there and it may be fun to breed your male to your girls and see what happens. You have a job that you enjoy and breeding your animals will just be more of a fun thing than something that you do to pay your bills. Why not see what happens?

i agree with that, im actually making plans to set up a snake room

jdshuler Apr 19, 2006 08:41 PM

i appreciate your reply but i'm not a rookie at this. i have cared for a couple hundred diffrent ball pythons over the past 8 years and hes about as normal as my black pastels are.

now i would like a reply from someone who can properly thaw a mouse.

gailt Apr 19, 2006 08:51 PM

>> now i would like a reply from someone who can properly thaw a mouse.

That wasn't called for ... you could have been a bit nicer about not caring for his response to your post. You asked for people's opinions and when someone gives you their opinion, you shouldn't bring up a mistake they made and act like they are some moron.

you right and i appolagize.

EmberBall Apr 19, 2006 08:59 PM

Since you obviously think it is not a normal, why not share with us why? Take a good pic, and point to what makes it not normal, because I do not see anything but a normal looking Ball from the pics posted.

try to get better pics. posted tomorrow.

gailt Apr 19, 2006 08:59 PM

I wish you had some better pics of your animal. It's difficult to see him, though he does look pretty nice. Have any closer pics?

Thanks for being nice about that and not jumping down my throat, it wasn't meant in a bad way.

Thank you for the apology, and I apologize if I sounded rude in my original post. I obviously haven't had much first-hand experience with ball pythons (only had my first one for about 3 monthes now), but I have studied ball pythons since I was around 5, because that's when I got my first 'real' snake book, and the picture of a ball python really stuck out to me. Anyways, I keep a few different kinds of reptiles, and I have been a poster on these forums for roughly 5 years now. Your question about the snake (with the pics accompanied) is something I'm fairly used to from this forum and the leopard gecko forum, and I've never quite understood why someone would think that their nice looking normal is a morph. Then again, I'm not big into morphs. I prefer the classic beauty of a normal animal.

So I just didn't understand what made this snake stand out to you as being different, and I would really like to know. Is it the pattern? I noticed it does have an interesting pattern.

i guess you just have to see him in person. like many people on here i get unpicked through lots every spring and only keep the absolute best.which on average is only one for every twenty-five. with some of these being cinnys, black pastels, YB's, hypos and so on. this male just blows all of them away in comparison. he has it all color, flames, blushing. like i said you just have to see him, pics just don't do it.
