Horny Geckos?

Ocar Apr 19, 2006 09:13 PM

Hey. Well I have two geckos and had to seperate them two months ago because i found out one was a male and another was a female. I seperated the tank by putting a peice of cardboard paper in between the 20 gallon tank. Now my geckos are about 6 months each. Last night I noticed that the male climbed the cardboard to the other side. I put him back in his side and he once again did this action. I finally decided that the cardboard had to extend all the way to the screen top so i put in an extension and the male didnt climb over the cardboard again. Now i am hoping that the male did not mate with her because they seem to young and too skinny. Is it possible for them to have mated in 30 minutes? Is it alright to keep a male and a female in the same tank, but divided with a cardboard paper?

i wish i could tell you if they mated in 30 mins, though it sound unlikely, you'll be surprised how quick the hole process is... i guess only time will tell.

i used to keep my 20 gal divided in half before (male on one side and female on the other) due to lack of space, and i never had a problem. however that is ok only while they are still young, once they reach adulthood 10 galls look (in my opinion) a bit to small for them. unless they are sharing the same tank.

good luck

I keep both my Geckos in a 55G tank with a piece of plastic seporating it right down the middle, The plastic only gose about 50% up the tank and I have never had a problem with the male trying to climb it, They both live as though they didnt know eachother were so close

I'm not sure at what age leopard geckos become sexually mature, but until that age they should be fine together.

My female was of age but my male was way under age and both werer way under weight buit they still bred so yes it can happen. When mine bred my male was only 12.7G and only 3.25" in length so they can and will breed at a young age. My mishap produced one egg and has clearly effected my female,
