Post Brumation shed

tko75 Apr 20, 2006 01:16 AM

I have a female amel that has been out of hibernation for 2 months and still hasnt shed. She is eating well, but no shed yet. I have another female that is in her pre-lay shed and is full of eggs that came out of brumation the same time. Has anyone seen this before????

The shed cycle and ovulation cycle usually happen together in a predictable fashion,(how convenient for us) but not always. You should learn to palpate your females for ovum so you know exactly when to introduce the male. It has much less to do with shedding then you think. Throw a male in with her and see what happens. Also, are you possitive its a female? sometimes males dont shed for a while when they wake up.
cheers

Ya its a female, she laid 12 eggs last year for her first clutch. I have put her in with the male and they have hooked a few times, dating back to April 1st. I dont believe she is gravid though. We will wait and see I guess. Thanks
