Traveling with leopard geckos

Mach5Speedy433 Apr 20, 2006 12:49 PM

I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a good idea: it doesn't sound like one and I don't think they'd last this long without a heat pad or lamp, but I'll ask:

I am traveling to my parents' house in South Carolina from Michigan (about a 14 hour drive), and if I traveled with my two leopard geckos in a shoebox while the tank is in the back seat, I dont think they'd last that long. Does anyone have any prior experience with this?

I doint think it would be a problem so long as you are driving strait through without staying the night in the car or somthing. Maybe you can provide them with some heat packs? How long will your visit be? if only for a weekend or so I would just leave them at home. If for a week I still would not worry to much just over feed them before you leave, If longer than a week you may want to take them with.

why dont you just put them in the front seat where the heater is? otherwise they do sell travel heat packs, non electic or battery. im not sure where you get them but i get mine from my reptile store. they are only $2.00. maybe look it up on yahoo or something or maybe some one will come up with a good link on where to get them.

i'll be there for awhile so that's why I wanted to bring them. I've never heard of travel heat packs, thank you. Do most local pet stores sell them? I couldn't find them on petco's website.

no local pet stores dont have them but the reptile store i go to here im cali does. they ship stuff all the time, geckos, snakes, blah blah ect,,,,. you may want to give them a call or shoot them an email, they will email you back within 24 hours im sure. you could maybe have them mail you 1 or two. their website is www.LLLreptile.com. just dont buy any animals from them unless it shows the picture of the actual animal. good luck, otherwise my boyfriend said that he use to use the same thing when he would go snow boarding, i guess the snow resorts would sell them to warm your hands.
