cajit Apr 20, 2006 06:27 PM

Does anyone have a place where you put food dish so it doesn't dry out so fast?I have it on cool end of tank where ambient temp is 85 degree's dead on.Also i read somewhere that uro's need 1-2 Tbsp.of food daily,is this true?I leave food in most of day is this good or just for a few hour's?Any tip's would be appreciated!!!!

There is not much that you can do about food drying out, aside from ensuring that the veggies are as fresh as possible and to begin with a fair amount of food in the plate. Generally speaking, a pile of veggies will stay moist/fresh longer than scattered veggies.

Though it may be true that **some** uros eat as litle as you say, 1-2 tbsp does not sound generally like an appropriate amount of food, except for perhaps youngsters. Besides, you would not want to offer only as little as you think they might eat but rather stimulate their willingness to feed by offering more varied choices and quantities.

My uros seems to prefer feeding in the bright, so if you move the food far away from the main basking area, it would be best if you have a full-spectrum light near the feeding site (this is a good thing to have anyways).

Good luck.

I generally have the food in the mid-range of the tank. It's fine if the food dries up - they'll eat that, too. I just clean out the scattered dried bits the next morning before I put in the fresh stuff for the day.

Yeah that's what Ive been doing more towards cool end.Around 2 pm I'll throw old food out and put fresh in.Might as well with the big heads of endive, escarole, and bok choy I have to get otherwise I wind up having to throw most of it out.I've only had him a little over 2 week's and he's settling in beautifully.I'm still not going to handle him for a few week's and even then I'll take it very slow until he's used to me.He's eating hardcore though I'm amazed at how much he can put away. And bought him some lentil's last night he tore them up this afternoon. He also loves sesame seed's.I leave a dish of the dry stuff in for him consisting of mazuri tortiose diet pellets(I crush these up cause they are too big whole)Lentils, and sesame seed's.His colors are showing up now too, very yellow.I can't wait til he's mature and fully colored! Before I forget I was just reading an old post on that other sites uro forum and your name was in it,I had this set to get an email when someone applied and i opened that email as i was reading a reply you wrote to a post,FREAKY!!Any way's take care!
