I GOT A BALL!! have a few questions tho

mkco79 Apr 20, 2006 10:39 PM

Ok so heres the story. A guy has a 16 year old, buys a ball loses interest and i saw the ad in the paper, complete set up with snake for 50 dollars. Needless to say i went and checked it out and decided to get it. he seems to be in good health. He had just shed and the shed was in his log. The shed was complete eye caps and all. A few issues with the husbandry tho as his UTH was just pluged in and not being monitired and there was no humidty guage in the tank either and only one hide on the warm side. All that has been adressed tho!

Ok so here are my concerns. One of his eyes is indented a lil bit and I can not remember what i saw on here that causes that so i wanted to post this in hopes that i learn what this is caused from so that i can quickly address the problem and fix it if possible.
There is also what appears to be a spot on the top of his mouth where it looks like he had been rubbing it or a possible bite from the live prey that they have been feeding him. Attempts will be made to get him eating frozen rats instead of the live mice they were feeding him aswell.

I am totally stoked to have my first ball and although i didnt get himfromthe breeder as i hoped this was just to good to pass up. Thanks for any advice you can give on the eye or anything else!

Sorry for the long post and i will hopefully have some pictures later on tonight! :D

Ok so i just looked it up and as I thought before the eye cap problem is from not enough humidity which is what i thought i had read. Hopefully this is the cause. Now my question is if humidity levels are raised and kept at a good rate will the eye return to normal or will this be a permenant thing?

I have covered 70% of the top of the cage and misted down the entire enclosure and humidity is around 65% right now. Hopefully this will cure the problem over time.

the eye caps also dent because of dehydration. if your ball knows the humidity is low and hes thirsty he would probably enjoy a humid hide. take an a tupperware container, cut a hole in the lid, put about half inch of water in the bottom then paper towels. put it on the warm side and when it heats up show your ball what it is by putting his head in it and he will probably go right in.
