This may be a really stupid question but I have to ask: Are the laws (as far as catching) the same if it's on your own property?

I'm gonna go with yeah, hunting license required. If the TPWD want to check, they will, and if you don't have the license you pay, and if it is anything like over the limit fish, OUCH! I have a h/f combo and a collecter's permit, just to be safe, that allows me to sell Texas native reptiles that aren't on the list to people who have breeder's permits. A breeder's permit allows you to sell to anyone. That'd be my take on it.

The wildlife on your land belongs to the state of Texas, not to the landowner.

theoretically, yes, you need a collectors permit and a hunting license, but if you are on private land i doubt that you will ever get checked by a GW. it is really a question of ethics weather or not you get the licenses. i have them but i know people that only look on private land and do not have them and have never been checked.

I believe she was asking about the legality, but as far as ethics go, shouldn't we all try to be ethical and legal? Just my .02.

todd,
that was my point, it is a matter of ethics, i have my permits and feel that others should have them too, but realistically, if you are on private land, you do not "need" a permit or a license. know what i mean?

Guys/Girls as far as Texas Non Game laws are concerned there is a small list of animals that are still covered as regulated animals, most of the rattlers in the state and a few other misc. animals are on the list. But with the exception of them and the animals covered by the endangered or threatened list a hunting license is all that is required and nothing else. I just got off the phone with TP&W and they verified this for me.

in some states as my own. you don't need a hunting license for the taking of deer on your own property but you need to have a deer permit and it can only be taken in " season ". Same on my state of reptiles although you have to be LEGAL in numbers. In my state you normally need the hunting license for non-owned property hunting.
