Help with a shed

SimplyRed Apr 21, 2006 11:21 AM

How do you assist in a terrible shed? I mean absolutely aweful? and how do I prevent this happening ever again? The book I have was utterly useless in this area.
Also, does it mean the snake is dehydrated if their skin feels too loose and makes sharp creases and folds when they curl up? What is that? Thanks

Ill try the soaking thing too. He is in a glass tank with a screen lid but the lid is covered by a towel to keep in humidity. Ill see about getting a spray bottle too

Yes hes got a rough log hide thats real scratchy

So I just soak him (how? hold him in the water for 20 minutes or... what?) and then let him go rub the shed off himself, or should I soak and then kinda let him scratch on me and use my nails to help it along?

Always had good clean whole sheds before this.... So Im baffled on what to do! Thanks for the help

The article is "Why do you have a soaking program" Good stuff there!

You can do as they advise or you can just get your tub and layer it with 4 or 5 layers of papertowels and soak them really good and put him in that way.

What ever you decide to do dont leave him unatteded and please becareful on your water temps!!

Good luck!

fingers crossed! thanks for that link

if he hasent figured this out with one 2 hr soak, do I need to assist him? Im worried that he wasnt drinking much and thats why this shed is so terrible. I didnt even see him go blue I just went in there last night and his skin was all sharply creased and rough and cloudy looking and he had a big piece hanging off his chin, I can only assume it was a shed. Iv never seen a well kept snake get that loose creased skin thing going on. What can I do to make sure it doesnt happen again, just keep the tank real moist?
