WEEK IN REVIEW!!!!!!!!!

toshamc Apr 21, 2006 03:03 PM

What is the longest, and shortest time you have experienced between the time the female sheds, and the time she actually lays?

Still not sold on this cross – show of hands how many people are working on this combo now? Should be interesting even if it just turns out to be a pied with a clown head, but it doesn’t hurt to hope for more!

Please help name this snake – I vote for Cindy Lou or maybe she’s a Ginger? hmmm

Need Help /Advice Just wanted to thank everyone for their tips to get those eggs moved! Their was one bit that was slightly stuck to the bottom and a spritz of water released them and they are now sitting in my incubator.

Help! 1 yr old never grew/bad sheds

When can I buy a Banana! I only have one available at this time:

Congrats to Nisa for finally getting Annabel Lee to eat – I like the whole not naming your snake until it eats thing – might have to try that.

If a male horse is called a Stallion and a female is called a Mare, what is a male and female snake called?

Does UPS ship snakes? This is the age ol question – formally the answer is no – tho there are those that follow the “what they don’t know wont hurt them” theory – but do you really want to buy a snake from someone that follows that wisdom? Maybe what you don’t know won’t hurt you?

Egg rotation and ill effects Interesting

Exploding Mice – no not a new mouse species – just an accidental overheat or maybe some rotten feeders!

Moldy Eggs – whattayagunna do – there are two camps – those that believe mold wont affect healthy eggs and those that remove them – another interesting thread MOLD w/ one egg, HELP

WHEN WILL ALL THIS FASTING END???!?!?!?

Photo periods

Aggressive hatchlings – My best advise is to acclimate them while they are young yeah you’ll get bit a couple of times, but it’s worth it!

And yet another “do you think this is special” post with crappy pictures.

Heres a new one: “My snake won’t stop eating” - time for Jenny Craig!

Pastel Fires anyone?

Speaking of Fires – can anyone give an explanation of the visible traits?

Sanitizing sprays - Clorox® Anywhere? Plain ol’ bleach and water, Vircon S, Virosan aka Nolvasan aka Chlorhexidine?

Anyone going to Hamburg PA show?

Threads From Hell

Quote of the week:

Free money...

Ain't no such thing!

As someone that spent the first half of Easter Sunday cleaning and feeding I can attest to that.

And I see nothing wrong with making some money from something you like to do. In fact, I highly recommend it.

Here are a few things I've learned from raising corn snakes:

Don't borrow money to start your snake business, then you (and your snakes) won't be pressured to produce to pay off loans.

Do take excellent care of them, they will reward you will better quality offspring.

Know what you're getting into BEFORE you purchase your first snake, read all you can about optimum care, talk to as many people in the business as you can.

Don't scrimp on the care basics, if you have to, buy a few less snakes.

If you're serious about a certain morph, get at least a 2.3 group, better still a 3.5 group to start.

Buy the best snakes you can afford, whatever the morph/morphs you want are. Quality usually produces quality.

As with any business, don't expect to turn a profit for 2-5 years and be prepared for that. Remember - you'll also need to allow for things like food, bedding, possible vet visits and meds. So set aside some money to cover those things. In other words "Don't quit your day job"!

As far as what snakes to purchase, get what you like the most, you'll enjoy it more. I just love the bumblebees and spider albinos, so to that end I'm starting with pastels, het albinos and normals. I'll pick up a spider as soon as I have enough cash for one. If you like, say pastel pieds, work with that. If you're having fun with your snakes the money will end up to be secondary anyway.

Good luck,
Cheryl

Awsome, glad to hear it! As a life long martial arts student I know those head injuries can linger LOL! Also glad that you figured my name out...I was woried some one might break my KS signature in the wrong place and call me Johna Villa lol! Are there a lot of Portuguese on the west coast?

toshamc Apr 24, 2006 02:03 PM

LOL - I'm not sure about Portugese but we do have quite a few immigrants of other Latin decent around here - I figured it was either John A. Villa or John Avilla - both we see a lot of around these parts!

Yeah didn't figure you had too many Portuguese. Here on the east coast the only place you'll really find us is in MA and RI. We have to ship linguica and cherico (pronounced sherice) and other stuff to our out of state fam because we do not have the numbers that Hispanics have. Oh well, we still have Brazil LOL.

LOL, I've been layin' low in my humid hide . My puter took a nose dive and it took Dell two weeks to figure out it was the hard drive. Reformated, and I'm up and runnin' again. I believe I saw an ovulation about three weeks ago so I'm waitin' to see what'll become of that also .

Thanks for putting my new one in the WIR. I ended up naming her Ester Lily. A friend's mom suggested Ester because I got her at Easter and Ester is the same name missing a letter. In that way, she matches Katrina who came to my home a month after the hurricane came to Louisiana. The Lily part was because my first day lily of the season bloomed on the day that I took her to the vet for the first time. Your suggestion of Lassie was in the running for a while, and I'll regret my choice if I'm ever caught under a tractor and need my snake to get help.

The practice of not naming a snake until the snake eats isn't a bad idea, but my girl immediately went into her shedding cycle. I'm dying for her to dump the old skin so that I can try to feed her. I tried once this week, but I had warmed the rat before I saw how cloudy her eyes were.

Thanks - yeah - the WIR is definately a dial up no no - but I can't imagine a way to do it without it being extrememly time consuming. Maybe I can make a special dial up version with just the links to the pictures? Hmm will have to think on it a bit. Do we have many dial up users?

the board ... how many people here are on dial up. I didn't mean for you to worry about dial up users ... that's why I said wink, wink, you know Monty Python wink wink, nudge, nudge ... but I'm sure there are some out there that don't have the patience to wait for it to load ... you'll have to start charging for WIR membership ... it will be a days work doing both broadband users and dial up users ...
