Eve - OT blotchie questions...

lele Apr 21, 2006 07:18 PM

is there a blotchie forum?

So, you think the 10.0 is necessary for these guys? Other than crix what do yours eat? They have taken the occasional small mealworm and fly larvae and will sometimes wrestle a butterworm (pretty funny!). They have definitely mated - a number of times. Do you have any idea what their gestation period is? Thanks for the site, btw. It says they lay eggs spring/summer but who knows how messed up their seasonal clock is! lol!

I have provided two "beds" of sand for them and they have both burrowed and slept in one - so cute! I know they need to lay in the sand as well. I may be looking for homes for some of these blotchies in a few months! Any tips appreciated.

Hi lele I had left you a post on the general lizard forum that the best place to ask questions about blotchies and hopfully get an answer is the chuckwalla forum Another one of my homes away from home hehhehee. We not only talk about our chucks there, but alot of desert lizards, zebra tails, desert iguanas, agamas, desert swifts, fence lizards, well just alot of different species get discussed because as keepers of chucks we all seem to have alot of these other guys as well.

And no there is no forum specifically for side blotch lizards, so feel free to pop over to the chuck forum.

I do not have any blotchies, I mainly work with collareds, as far as smaller lizards. But the blotchies have a few or more clutches during breeding season as do the collareds.
They begin in the spring and usually go through august/sept laying eggs. After you have seen them mate or pretty sure they have she will lay within about 3-4 weeks. Make sure your little nest is dampened somewhat for her to lay. I'm sur ethe eggs would probably be incubated at about the same temps as collareds 83- 84 would most likey be a good middle ground.

They are cute little lizards, very common in western US. I have always admired them, pretty colors .

They would eat alot of the same things as collareds or fence lizards/swifts. Any small wiggly worms, moths, FLIES they love, caterpillers, spiders, crickets of course. You can try any small smirmy or fast moving insects.
