Can a leopard change its spots?

PattiGecko Apr 22, 2006 11:15 AM

Hi again, I have another question. Here is Frankenstein, before and after being sick. She never had black spots on her tail until she got sick. I took her to the vet and he said she had a mouth infection, gave me antibiotics, etc. That's been 2 weeks ago and she's still not any better and now she has more spots. Does anyone know what may have happened??

My leopard gecko looks nothing like she did when i first got her 3 years ago, all her spots are different.

Probably it's related with her regenerated tail. Since her body pattern is the same. The only change in pattern I can observe is in her tail.
My girlfriend has a leo that didnt had any orange in his tail and after he regenerated (his tail), half of it is orange!

Darkening of base color and the appearance of new spots is usualy stress related.... Things like shipping, breeding, and sickness can cause this to happen....

Thanks Greg, I didn't know that. Would these be permanent new spots then? Or might they go away when she's feeling better?

When I first got Frankenstein her tail looked like a bright orange piece of chewing gum stuck to her bottom.

Well, usually once they are there they stay but in some cases they can lighten up again..... Also some leos develope spots as they get older....

I really loved her bright orange bulb of a tail, but if it's spotted now that's okay, too. The important thing is to get her well right now, she still won't eat on her own-and she was my best eater! Anyway, I'll have to see about getting her to a different vet this week.
