A must have book

DanW Apr 22, 2006 07:57 PM

I am in the process of reading True Vipers by Mallow/Ludwig/Nilson. This book is incredible. The detail in which it goes into venom make-up and symptoms as well as LD50's and case studies is just what I have been looking for. Add to that the description of the individual snakes are quite good. This book tackles each species in depth one by one. My only disappointment is that it does'nt cover the pit vipers and elapids. This book is so good I just had to let everyone know. Does everyone else enjoy this book as much as I do? It is available from Krieger Publishing and from the Bean Farm.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
Yes, I have this book and it's a good one.
I am sure others on this forum have it too!
It is lacking in some respect (other snakes) but overall, it's a good one.
But, see if you can get your hands on "Asian Pitvipers", by Gumprecht, et al. and "Venomous Snakes of Asia", by Gernot Vogel.
You will really enjoy those.

Hi all,

I have true Vipers as well as both of the titles Randal Mentioned, I enjoyed reading all of them however I was dissapointed that "True Vipers" went to all the trouble with fantasic species accounts but the photography was very average at best. There are lots of good photographers out there with the required images all they needed to do was ask around. I had the same gripe with the Varanoid Lizards of the World....great info mostly shoody photography.

Scott Eipper
