best habitat for eastern milks ?

adamjeffery Apr 22, 2006 09:47 PM

ive been wanting to go out and catch some eastern milks lately, i havent seen any around here in about 2 years. the last time i seen some was when i helped tear down my friends old work shed. we found some pretty drab older females with some scaring and one had a broken tail just after the cloaca. my question is other than old houses and sheds what would the ideal habitat be to look for them. should i look near mountain streams lakes ponds or highlands lowlands. i find alot of ringnecks and garters but i would like to find some more easterns.
so everybody knows if the animals i find are attractive i will keep a pair or two but no more. i would like to try breeding them if i can find some good examples.

Do you know of any saw mills? One of the best places for me to find them is a saw mill up the road from where I live.Look under old boards. The place I go to uses tin roofing to cover their wood piles and some of it lays on the ground.Thats where I find most easterns.Under the tin. Also old barns are great places to find snakes.Good luck.

They are similer to the scarlet kingsnake and are not in my hunting range but if you go by my lead you'll find them...best place to hunt is near a perminant water source (lake or big ditch or canal, look for decidous pine forest (thick)and most easily found in the winter months under loose pinetree bark of pine stumps...JB
