hey guys, was wondering if:

1. you could tell me the # of sheds between ovulation and birth?

2. do females sometimes refuse to eat during the latter half of pregnancy?

3. whats the average length of gestation?

thanks guys!

jlogan,
...I used to keep very accurate records and noted no correlation between shedding and birth dates. I have had them shed 2, 3 and 4 times while gravid. I have even had them lay their babies while very opaque. Mine usually lay 5.5 months after last observed mating. Many do not eat the entire time from last mating till they lay the babies. Some eat a few small meals while gravid.
Good luck,
Jeff

thanks! that makes me feel alot better.

i cycled these guys early, they were super fat, and they mated all through december and early january. she has shed 3 times and has eaten only 2 small weaned rats since the last mating, and she hasn't lost any girth or noticible weight. her back end looks a little bigger but she doesnt look huge, so that leaves me rather uncertain? do these guys get really big in the later stages of pregnancy? or are the ova spred out in such a way that it isnt very noticible?

thanks again!

Very typical for feeding to be minimal to not at all throughout pregnancy. They do get larger but not so very noticibly, and is spread out. They look like they had eaten a large meal all the time.
