who to ship dragons through

beachbeardies Apr 23, 2006 01:18 AM

ok i have expanded my sales of dragons to where i am starting to ship dragons to customers. i have not yet shipped any, i usually meet them locally or at shows. i was wondering who i should use to ship them. i know i will not use DHL, a few bad experiences receiving dragons and a chameleon through them. they like to leave them at my door and not knock on the door. so anyways i need to know how to do this through a shipper. do i need to get an account through them or can i just take the package to the store and do it that way or what? please let me know. thanks

SOme airlines will ship reptiles, UPS may though you will have to clarify with them (I hear they ship lizards but won't ship snakes). Not sure about other shippers in the US, most I have heard of are through past posts here.

There are also a couple good sites out there on shipping reptiles. Will include one below which I find has alot of great info from who to use to ship to how to prepare the shipping box.

I have been using UPS to ship my dragons and I haven't had to jump through hoops. Their main requiremnet is that you state on the package that it is a LIVE harmless lizard. DHL and FED-X don't generally except reptiles with out speacial permission which some locals not all, will deny you.
I ship overnight with a 10:30am to noon delivery time and a signature is required uppon arrival. Since the dragon will not arrive any sooner even if you drop off earlier in the day I wait till the last pick up (around 6:30pm) to drop off the dragon. I get there about 6pm. It minimises the the stress the dragon will go through from being in the box. Only feed your reptile/dragon in the early morning hours the day it will be shipped. You do not want to ship an animal with a belly full of food it won't be able to digest in route. Yor asking for digestive upsets if you do. Follow the packing instructions that were on the web site already mentioned and you should be ready to go.
