sick Kingsnake?

bettiebites Apr 23, 2006 09:29 AM

I have a kingsnake I adopted several years ago that is acting strange. I do not know how old he is, but I have had him for about 5 years, so I know him well. I have found him a few times with his head lolling to the side, he is wheezing and he is shedding improperly (there is plenty of humidity, so this shouldn't be happening as far as I know). He ate a few days ago, but otherwise is just acting off. He also seems lethargic as well. There is no good herp vet around here, so I'm going to try here and then head into the city in a few days to have a vet check him I suppose. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

These are all symptoms of something wrong. The lolling head may indicate muscle problems, imbalence, or difficulty breathing. The wheezing makes me think of respiratory distress, which would be consistent with lethargy. Improper shed is also a sign of general poor health.

You should definitely get him to a vet for evaluation.

Good luck,
