Hamburg show going down hill?....

BobS Apr 23, 2006 08:54 PM

What do you think? There were a lot of the REGULAR REPUTABLE FOLKS and the EXCEPTIONAL, like the baby Gila vendors etc.

I realize it's pre- hatchling time but to me it seemed a long way from the Mark Bell type days when things were meticulous clean and top notch. There were dirty cages and deli containers that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a while. Folks hawking animals they knew nothing about. Tables with skulls knives, weird trinkets etc.( fine if you like that but most of us go for the herps)There was a guy selling used Visions for example for close to new prices and they were filthy, there was feces sprayed all over the inside and other crud inside them. No apparent attempt to even make them marketable.I thought there was not that much diversity too.

I don't mean to sound snotty but I remember Hamburg for better days. I'm feeling more inclined to spend my money at White plains N.Y. and skipping Hamburg in the future. Just my opinion, not looking to offend anyone. Anybody else have an opinion?

Some months are just better than others. I can't say that I've been going there as long as you might have but thats what I've noticed over the last few years.

I think it may be due to the time of year. There are not many new hatchlings around & most people are holding on to their breeders till after eggs are dropped.. Even with that i think there was still a pretty nice selection of animals to choose from.

I agree with you about the trinket booths, but they seem to be popping up at all the herp shows (even White Plains). I don't mind the reptile related toy/stuffed animal booths because it provides something for the kids. BUT, In my opinion the knife booths are out of place & i really think the drug pariphinalia booths should be eliminated. There is absolutly no reason to sell pot pipes and water bongs at a herp show!

Just my opinion! ~ Mike Russo
