Fav. snake poll.....

phiber_optikx Apr 23, 2006 11:33 PM

I have just been noticing a pattern lately... Most people on the forum are from the east coast (where corns are located) so my question is this... What is your favorite snake? Does that snake naturally occur in your state? My favorite snake is the black rat. They are just so calm and active and curious. Followed by the corn of course .

Mine would have to be the corn. I only have one black rat, and it is not the pure black that I am looking for. So, I would say corns, then black rat tied with kings for second. I like the attitude that kings have. Not the ones that never tame and always bite. But when i look at a corn, i see beauty and a majestic snake. When I see a king, I see power, and a confidence that is just fun. I am silly and it is hard to describe.
As for being in my state, corns are not (much to my disapointment), but there are some kings here in Cali. I have never had the pleasure to find any, though.

You think corns demonstrate a domestic power? You have never seen a 6' black rat that sleeps on your lap! I agree that I love corns and unfortunately they are not in my state.... We have emoryi though! Just none sighted in my county... But when I hold a black rat there is just something that says "respect me!"

If you think a black rat snake has power, you should try a Bullsnake or a Pinesnake...that's POWER.
I would have to Pituophis are my favorite.

i guess my fav is a corn... the reverse okeetee to be exact...but i have none... and then the candy cane... and i had one when i was like 12 that died. then i dunno what i like 2nd. i like my black rats b/c they look right through you with those grey eyes and my kings are the sweetest lil things... except the skunky smell. but my black rats do that too.. except ALOT MORE and i hate it when my willard tries to get away. unlike my romeo who will just chill in your lap and enjoys car rides(i guess) he just looks out the window. oh well... but imma try to post a pic of my cali kings so you can see how pretty they are!!!

Hands down the Eastern Kingsnake. Beautiful snakes with unmatched power. I love them. And they happen to be native to my state (Va) which is an added bonus.

i would have to say ball python because they get "fat" and corns because of all the colors.

AJCrader Apr 24, 2006 09:13 AM

I would have to say my fav is the eastern indigo or yelklow tail cribo, they are beautiful, and their personality is the best, IMO...I have only been around a few as they are quite costly to acquire. The corn would definately follow, then the Ball Python

now this is a tough question. I'll break it down to several categories. First natural "wild type" coloration has to be a pure s. Carolina corn, nothing tops that. Fav morph animal has got to be the ball python, more mutations than any other snake and some are quite breath-taking. Fav large constrictor is the retic. Fav venomous is the King cobra, wonderful animals to work with once they are acclimated. favorite snake in my collection , heck i love them all but it's a tie by my reverse okeetee female and my citrus ghost ball python.

I am almost posative that it is false.... there are like 15 morphs (I think) of balls and over 75 morphs of corns.

No ...just a response to the whole thread in general. Some one mentioned there were more Ball than Corn morphs.
I didn't think there was, but I do know there's a bunch. So I thought just maybe there were more Ball than Corn morphs.
So I had to do a little checking.
I bet there's more than that , but I saw about 170 different corn morphs.

Here's the quote I am referring to.

granted there are more crosses with the corn mainly because it's easier to hit the odds on those tripple recessive crosses but as a whole with foundation morphs there is more ball's than corns. Also there are some killer corn morphs out there, but some are soo much like the others. And there are others like the stripe motley cremsicle, can you even see the motley pattern, and if not does the motley part really count as a visible morph? Again I don't know if the motley shows up or not, just a little speculation on my part. Give balls a few more years, there will be more crosses than the snake community will know what to do with.

repzoo44 Apr 24, 2006 11:34 AM

hhhmmmmmm, tough. Im going to have to call a tie between ball pythons and western hogs. Balls because they are so docile and have good size but dont get too big. W. Hogs because they are docile and THINK they are big. I really like my glades rat too, hes a very cool snake.

WOW, that is a tough question. Not counting morphs. I'd say a rhino viper for hots, and no I've never had one. African rock for big snakes, yes I've had several. Smaller non hots is tough,,,, A very deep green emerald tree boa. No tain't had one, but cared for one at the shop as a kid.

That list could change on my mood though lol
