I collected this juvi. black rat and wanted to get opinions on the pattern. I can post more pics if needed.

Could be a naturally occuring mutation. Striped maybe? Or it could just be abberant. Breed it and see! Here is one that was given to me last week. She has been in captivity for a week and is just as tame as my cb black rats.

I live in Grantville, Ga. the only possibilities is a black ratsnake, a gray ratsnake, or a intergrade of the two.
gray rats usually have gray eyes, black rats won't. cool pattern on that little guy! here's a pic of an 18 month old texas rat i got from thomas davis some time ago. he's still a bit nasty, the snake that is.......lol!

You've got you and abberant there. I have seen plenty of black rat/gray rat intergrades, and they dont look like that. It will be very interesting to see how that one grows up. I suspect it is an abberant gray, but as someone else pointed out in this thread, the eyes will help you a great deal in determining which it is based on eye color. I think you might potentially have something real cool there.
