How to make half of tank cooler

arconea Apr 24, 2006 01:12 AM

The temperature in my kingsnake tank is about 80 Fahrenheit through the whole tank. I have no heat lamp over any part of it. How do I make half of the tank cooler?

Turn off the heat lamp and use a under tank heat pad to heat to create a hot spot...

Try moving your tank to a cooler part of your house. I keep the species that require cooler temps on or close to the floor, where it is always cooler by 5 to 10 degrees. Then you can create a gradient with a small heat lamp, or undertank heat pad on one side of the tank.

BTW>>> If you are unsing a heat pad, be sure you don't put your tank directly on carpet!!!

I am in southern california and have the same issues in the summer here.

Invest in a temp gun to make sure you have the tempsread correctly. If your room temp is up to 80, turn the A.C. on.
I also use a cage fan--like a cpu fan that can be plugged in. It's very easy...i place it on screen on the warm side to "pull" the warm air out . just some ideas
