White's lifespan

louis_mallow Apr 24, 2006 09:32 AM

I've read wildly vaying estimates for the lifespan of White's in captivity. My wife's seems to be going strong at 6 years or so, and I only have snakes for comparison, which will of course last 12-20.

Any more solid guidance on longevity?

Zoo's often record their White's living for 16 years, I think the record was 20. In the hobby i think average life span is reduced by 'mistakes.' How big are they at 6 years?

I have a number of whites. My oldest is at least 14. I got him when he was fully grown, so he could be older than that. He calls all the time, and even though he has slowed down a bit, he still is healthy.

I read from a book that White's can live to be 20 years or more with proper care.

I've been keeping and breeding for years. Somewhere bewteen 15 and 20 years is a good guide.
