Disneys Animal Kingdom Uro's granola....

mistamasta Apr 24, 2006 05:01 PM

Well, so I was on family vacation and we visited Disneys Animal Kingdom and we got off one of their safari things and we were touring the last part of the attraction and lo and behold they had two "African Spiny Tailed Lizards" so to make my shock and awe story short, they were HUGE!!! Not big like Egyptians but fat, like a very healthy fat neck, belly, and tail. So I was looking at their food dishes and they were full of some type of granola, pellet, berry mix. I was wondering if this had something to do with it. I've never even seen a picture of Uro's that looked as fat and healthy as these two. I was wondering if any one has ever tried feeding their Uro's any type of grain, or which ones are safe or anyones general thoughts on the subject. Thanks.
JG

Fat is bad in a Uromastyx. You shorten their life span by about half if they get the "Budda" look. Grain diets are way too high in calories and salts - use them very sparingly.
