Well I do not yet have a BTS of my own but am doing thorough research. Check out www.bluetongueskinks.net. They got great info on BTS care.

I have offered the same variety of greens, veggis and fruit that I have given bearded dragons in the past, but with higher concentration of insect protein, about 50:50 ratio. I do use Fancy Feast catfoot, often mixing it up with the greens (about the only way they eat the greens that I can tell). Haven't offered any pinky mice yet, mostly because I don't have anymore available (had two baby cornsnakes taking care of those LOL) and I don't think my skinks are big enough for rat pinks.

For insects I have given superworms and silkworms mostly so far.

yeah. i do the same with the greens, but instead of fancy feast i use the monitor diet. i also give him canned deshelled snails, and i just wanna say i would suggest that to anyone with a BTS (about 1-3 per feeding)

i fed my guy a fuzzy mouse when he was about 4 maybe 5 mounths. hes eaten about one or two since then but doesnt eat them anymore, he seems to hate them actually. thus... my lil sister has two pet mice haha... just waiting for my savannah to get big.

Hi,
The first question we would ask is what kind (just curious); how old (important); and where did you get it (also important).

When our BTS have young, we feed a high protein diet for the first 6 months - mostly consisting of meats; eggs and fruits - some insects. Once they pass the 1 year mark, the diet changes to more veggies and less meat.

We have used canned iguana diet (great in a pinch) and Mazuri diet (softened) mixed with other items. The bigest consideration is variety - they really like a lot of different things.

If you got your bluey from a breeder, chances are that it has had a good basic diet - but if it was an import, sold by a pet shop - it may need some extras added into its diet for a while.

yeah. i bought Stza (my BTS)from a breeder. he was taken care of very well. he was 3 mounths when i got him and ive had him for about 6 or 7, maybe 8 haha, im not good with time.
the monitor diet was in a can... i got it at a reptile store that atleast claims they only sell captive bred herps. i only keep it for about a mounth in the refridgerator in a seeled container after i open it. and the kind it is... Zupreems Monitor Diet exotic carnivorous animal diet. and ive been decreasing his meats and increases his veggies.

I have found that a really good staple diet for my pair of Northerns has been the new dog food called Beneful. I know alot of people say no dog food but this stuff is full of nutritious ingredients. I feed mine the one called "Roasted turky Medley". It has turkey (duh) and corn, rice, peas and barley. I also use one called "Simmered Chicken" with alot of veggies as well. I feed that about once a week, and then a couple times a week I give insects, greens, fruits etc. Here is a trick to get them to feed on greens...I also raise crested geckos so I have baby food on hand. Smear some fruit flavored baby food on the greens and they should eat them. Fruit baby food is the trick to get BTS to eat different things. After a couple feedings with the baby food they will eat the greens or whatever on their own. Of course BTS breeders will agree that no two skinks are the same. What works for my pair may not work someone elses. I have raised alot of herps and the BTS's are the most diverse group of lizards I have been around with regards to individual personalities. No two skink personalities are alike, but then that is what is so appealing to me about them I guess.

please make sure if you feed canned cat food that it is of high quality. No Friskies, whiskas, etc... the first ingredient should be chicken, not byproduct or meal.

I boil shredded chicken or ground turkey then chop it all up in a processor with collards, squash, and mango.
