Incubator Temp

apostolosgurl Apr 24, 2006 05:31 PM

I have a hovabator incubator and just 2 days ago had 2 eggs laid by one of my geckos and i am not new to breeding leos but this is the first time it seems the incubator either wants to stay at like 90 degrees or the thermometer in there is messed up because i was trying to decrease the temp and it seems to stay at 90 i don't know quite for sure i am buying a digital thermometer to see if its the incubator or thermometer. I know that if the eggs get too hot or too cold they can die but in the wild how does the eggs stay regulated in the desert since its really hot in the daytime and cold at night? just a curiousity question if anyone has an answer for that.

Hovabators are not the greatest incubators but they can be made better.... The best "upgrade" you can do for a hova, is to drop the waffer design and install a thermostat.... This will help to ensure the temps do not go too over or under your desired temperature range....

Leos lay their eggs deep enough in the ground or under rocks where the outside elements will not affect the eggs.... If you go just bellow the suface, the temps are very stable depending on soil composition...
