WooHoo Surprise HYPOS!!

Mystical-Dragons Apr 24, 2006 05:49 PM

Well today my first Gwen x Buddy baby hatched from it's egg, and it's a clear nailed hypo My first ever, and a COMPLETE surprise to me. I was expecting these to be het hypos, with buddy being a hypo, but Gwen my holdback Foster X Candy baby being a carrier is a complete surprise. This means Candy's Dad a dragon den snow must have had clear nails or at least carried the hypo trait.

That means if you bought a Foster X Candy from me or a Sobek x Myah last year there is possibility of them carrying the hypo gene as well. Good Luck!! Talk about a surprise added bonus These are going to be stunning if they have any of Gwen's/Candy's/Foster's (the whole line is outstanding) bright orange coloring. This catches me up on my hypo project LOL No need to keep hets now

pics will come as more hatch, and I can get a group shot, but I was so excited I had to share LOL...

Those are beautiful babies! Kinda feels like Christmas when dragons hatch. Josh

Mystical-Dragons Apr 27, 2006 04:59 PM

It sure does feel like Christmas Josh. Every darn time.

This was my first time hatching out a hypo, and it was unexpected so I was quite taken back when that first baby hypo hatched out first. I took her gave her a big kiss (yuck vermiculite in the mouth) and ran over to the light with a magnifying glass LMAO just to see exactly what I had hatched. you know that dream us breeders have of hatching out something new and exciting. I'm actually still waiting for my albinos to hatch any day now LOL ...

I'd love to see some baby hypo trans right out of the egg when the time comes? These regular hypos looked pink and almost translucent right from the egg. hypo trans must be really extreme. Are the purple trans the ones with more translucence to them?? Like in a clutch are the extreme examples of trans the ones that look purple?

congrats!!! what a nice suprise.

out of curiousity, the term hypo has been thrown around at me so much of exactly what it is....what makes a hypo a hypo? is the clear nails or the light coloring or what? i thought clear nails was luecistic?

Mystical-Dragons Apr 25, 2006 05:47 PM

Nathan posted a link to a web site a few threads above that has good info on the traits.

Basically leucistics are recessive hypomelanistic dragons, and both Leucistic, and hypomelanistic dragons have clear nails. What we call Leucistic in bearded dragons is not a true Leucistic animal, but rather a excessively white recessive hypomelanistic dragon. I believe nothing has been found to date to differentiate the two. If you breed a Luecistic with a Hypo clear nail all offspring will have clear nails and be hypomelanistic dragons, not double hets.

My Candy was from a red-orange x Dragons Den snow breeding. The dragons den snow did not have clear nails, but carried the gene.. I'm thinking if you crossed a dragons den snow with a hypomelanistic dragon (hypo pastel) these offspring hets would then create a excessively white hypomelanistic dragon.
